Some Doodles

Last month my sketch book got the shaft. Which is really sad.  I had been doing a lot better about doodling more frequently.  I am happy to say that I've been able to show my journal a little more love this month.  I find working in sketches to be very relaxing and gratifying.  It is quick and dirty with very little guidelines.  Here are some pages from the month.

This is my favorite because it was done with Henry.  The background was painted with kiddie watercolor.  Henry was painting and asked me to join him.  So, I did.   He helped me pick the colors.

Painting with Henry

I guess at some point he has heard me say I needed to get art supplies.  So while we were in Hobby Lobby the other day, he informed me that "he needed art supplies."  It was so sweet I had to find him something.  We ended up with this little water color set and a small water color tablet.  It is perfect for his age.  He will just paint and paint with minimum mess.  Much easier for momma to deal with on stressful days rather than pulling out the easel and temper paints.

We sing this song, a lot. It is cute because both of the boys get into it.

I actually got to play along with the sketchbook challenge this month.  The theme was circles.

I also finally got started on my art class.  I'm checking things off my birthday list.   The class I ended up with was 21 Secrets: An Art Journal Playground.  I picked it because I liked the idea of lots of little lessons from different teachers.  Sometimes I feel like I can be to heavily influenced by other people's style.  This way, I'm getting a variety of influence.  It is going to take me a while to go through the lessons.  I'm working on several idea projects from the workshop, but everything takes me twice as long these days.  I did finish one of the exercises.  It was to take an old book page and pick a few words that stood out. Then doodle around the words. This was so much fun.  The whole thing took 5 minutes.  It was a fun little exercise to get to you thinking.

Yay, for finding a few moments to doodle!

In non-art related news, Henry is learning to ride his bike!  He is doing so well.  He looks so grown up cruising around the park.

And Alex is well on his way to walking.  Still not there yet, but he is getting closer and closer.  While the boys were playing, I was attempting to run some sprints as a part of my training for my next half marathon in November.  I think I might just need to embrace the fact that I am always going to be a slow runner.

Getting close

Now I am off to reclaim my house.  It is a zoo.  It always seems to get away from me by the end of the week.  I should probably fold laundry instead of painting, but you know, that just wouldn't be any fun.  Off to tackle the mountain of dirty clothes taking over my hamper.  Happy Friday!

PS.  Jason randomly brought me home a bouquet of daisies!  I love wildflowers!  They are so pretty I just thought I should share.
